Ski Half Term

Now one of the most popular ski weeks in the ski calendar, the half term ski weeks often fly out the door weeks after the last one as families seek to quickly secure their favourite family chalet in their favourite family ski resort.

Verbier is of course always a popular destination so if you are yet to secure your family skiing holiday during the February half term skiing holidays, availability may be hard to come by.

Ski New Year

With just under a couple of weeks before the longest day, it does seem that time is just flying by and that it won't be long before the new 2011 ski season is upon us. On this note, the peak weeks seem to be experiencing even higher than usual demand and even Easter ski 2011 is selling well. The big daddy however of the whole season is of course the ski New Year 2011 celebrations and if you are looking to celebrate the New Year on the slopes you may want to make that booking pretty damn quick to avoid missing out.

If you are looking for a great family ski holiday, Verbier isn't a bad call. From the gentle nursery slopes of the Savoleyres, through to the steep and deep of Tortin to keep Dad's and older teenagers quiet for the whole week, well at least until they get back to the chalet to relive the adventure!

Family Chalet

Verbier has some great family friendly ski facilities to ensure all abilities get the most out of the family ski holiday. For beginners the Savoleyres has a magic carpet, a slow moving drag, a gentle drag, and both a short green run and a longer run as confidence builds. Above this area there are also some great south facing slopes to build confidence. The more adventurous will progress to the Attelas area and the teenagers in the family group to the snow park and snow cross run to show off their 'air' and 'speed'.

So if you are looking for a great family chalet, Verbier certainly isn't a bad place to start.

Discover Verbier

One of the best companies in Verbier is undoubtably Discover Verbier who operate some great luxury catered chalets, yet at a very good price. For this reason, and not withstanding the service, Discover Verbier are year on year one of the most successful companies operating in Verbier. Operating for well over 10 years they have built a formidable reputation for excellence and have year on year clients returning.

Easter Ski

Here in Verbier we have just seen the end of the Easter ski weekend and what a ski weekend it has been. Personally it is one of my favourite times to ski as the snow is typically in great condition, and the warmer sunny days just make skiing that extra little bit more special.

Well this ski Easter weekend certainly didn't disappoint with even more snow, and powder than normal, warm spring sunshine, and the bank holiday Easter crowds making the great apres-ski atmosphere in the bars afterwards, that little bit livelier and fun.

All in all, a very happy Easter ski!!

Family Ski

Verbier has some great family chalets to offer family skiing groups. From the nursery slopes at Savoleyres with the magic carpet (travelator) and gentle drag lift, to the teenagers paradise of Attelas and Mont Gele. This Easter ski holiday it highlights also why Verbier is so popular, great snow after a recent snowfall, and sunny warm pistes, perfect for all ages. So whether you are looking for a great family chalet for the very young, or teenagers, Verbier has some truly great family ski accommodation,

Ski In Ski Out

Interestingly Verbier town has very few true slopeside ski in ski out chalets, so as an alternative, Ski In ski Out Chalets have a great slope side chalet in Tzoumaz. Here you still have great access in to the Verbier 4 Vallees network, in fact, missing out on the Medran lift queue and Attelas congestion first thing will probably ensure powder hounds capitalising on the ski in ski out convenience, will get to the top of Tortin and Mont Fort, long before the Verbier crowd are half way up the mountain. So if you want to avoid the crowds, and get first tracks, a ski in ski out Tzoumaz, Verbier holiday is a great alternative, and the real skiers sensible bet!

Ski Christmas Verbier

A ski Verbier Christmas is probably the best present you could buy loved ones this Christmas holiday. Situated at 1,500m and with skiing up to 3,300m, Verbier is a lively resort that has limitless potential on and off the piste.  For beginners there is the Savoleyres  areas with gently sunny slopes, and then there is Attelas for the more adventurous. Experts are certainly not left out with the famous Mont Fort Wall and the great itinerary run of Tortin.

Off the slopes, a Verbier Christmas is much more than just a skiing holiday with fabulous bars and restaurants, and beautiful chalets throughout the town.

Luxury Chalets Verbier

Verbier is one of the best European ski destinations, and hence why I personally am nearly always seen there skiing, or Chamonix as another great alternative. The thing about Verbier is that it has not only some the best skiing in the world, it also has some of the best luxury chalets. Verbier therefore has it all, and after a day skiing from the top of Mont Fort, and then down Tortin, you really are going to want the Verbier luxury chalet treatment!

Tortin is a great off-piste itinerary route, and for those of us with the sore knees from skiing it so much, it was once a black pisted route that just was never pisted!! So bumps and moguls was the thing of the day and back then, there wsn't many hout tubs to sink into! Thankfully then I had my youth, whereas now I want the comfort, not quite the slippers and pipe comfort, but the luxury that means I can really relax, not just in a luxury hot tub, but in luxury surrounding and a great ambience, and for this, and the skiing, some of the luxury chalets in Verbier really get my vote.

Oh, and if you are thinking of skiing in Verbier, you may have missed some of the best luxury chalets this season, but it isn't too late to book next year, starting with a ski Christmas in Verbier!

Ski Half Term

Already many of the Verbier ski chalets have been booked for the ski half term break so if you are looking to book the most popular family ski holiday of the year, there is no time like the present. The ski half term is by any standards busy, but ski lessons and ski equipment for younger ones is strongly advised to be booked in advance, prior to arrival or face the risk of them running out, or being left with ill fitting equipment.

Certainly the good family ski companies we know will have no qualms with booking ski lesson and ski equipment so you might want to just check before you choose, that yours will do so.

Ski New Year

Verbier is certainly a great resort to spend skiing New Year, the 4 Vallees Network, offering some of Europe's best skiing, and Verbier itself, never sleeping! And after skiing on new Years Eve, well it is going to be one hell of New Year celebration!! Verbier is as world famous for its apres skiing as it is its skiing! Numerous bars and one of the best resorts for atmosphere, least of all the ski New Years Eve week!

In the town their are great ski chalets, but if you are looking for the quieter way to see in the New Year, how about Tzoumaz, a great little town that ensures there is more than enough to do on New Years Eve, without the excess!! And the skiing is still linked to the Verbier 4 Vallees!

Luxury Catered Chalets

This week we are focusing on Chalet Auriane in Tzoumaz, part of the Verbier 4 Vallees network. This 5 bedroom luxury catered chalet is the ideal family ski chalet for up to 12 people with the ski chalet accommodating 8 adults and 4 children in 5 en-suite bedrooms (one master bedroom, three doubles / twin, and one bedroom with two bunk beds sleeping four).

Chalet Auriane itself is exceptional value and would probably be double the price if it was just over the mountain in Verbier, so here you can enjoy a large luxury catered chalet in Verbier's 4 valleys ski area, that won't upset your bank manager! The interior blends the traditional character of a wood and stone chalet, with contemporary and stylish living. The leisure spa room with sauna, hammam, river shower are more akin to chalets double the price and the relaxation area including an outdoor Jacuzzi ensure any stay at Chalet Auriane is nothing less than a luxury one.

In terms of Tzoumaz, this is a great family friendly ski alternative to Verbier itself as it provides access to the same Verbier 4 valleys network, without the expense! The town itself is smaller than its big brother but there are still some great bars and restaurants to frequent and it has a friendly, less demanding profile that will appeal to those that want great skiing, but don't need to apres ski until 4am in the morning!

So if you are looking for outstanding luxury, a great town where you don't need to be up until 4am in the morning, or just a great family friendly ski chalet, this might just be up your street!

Ski Verbier

To Ski Verbier is special and one of the best ski experiences you'll have, whether from an on-piste, off-piste, or apres ski perspective. Part of the 4 Vallees ski area, that includes Verbier, Thyon and Nendaz,  Tzoumaz, Verbier offers high altitude skiing in cultured, hip, and fun atmosphere.

Verbier 4 Vallees skiing network is world renown, the skiing is some of the best in Europe and to get the most out of a ski Verbier holiday, you will want to be a confident intermediate or expert, although the Savoleyres areas has a seperate beginners area. The 'Wall' at the top of mont Fort (3,330m) is legendary, but I for one prefer the stunning scenery of Tortin below it. Many years ago a black piste (but never pisted), nowadays a great Off-piste Itinerary Run (marked in Yellow on the piste map). Real experts will find some great skiing on and off the piste, and with a guide might want to show friends that real skiers don't even bother with the wall, as they prefer to pop off the back of Mont Fort where it is just as steep, but has fresh tracks!

In the resort the bars are full of life and extensive, and certainly not for the faint hearted. The restaurants and bars start as soon as every one leaves the slopes, and they won't close much before first lifts! Being switzerland, its chic, fun nightlife attracts a discerning crowd, both friends looking to party, but also family ski groups who want to ski the best snow and the best ski resorts.

Enjoy your ski Verbier holiday.
